Lacto Fermentation Cooking Class with Dr. Alyssa Finn

Summer Pickles

Learn the basics of lacto-fermentation. You will make sauerkraut and cucumber pickles and take home a jar of each that you made to ferment on your countertop. Lacto-fermentation is a simple process to preserve and pickle foods that uses only salt and water. Healthful beneficial bacteria (think probiotics) form in the process of fermentation, and when you consume these fermented foods, your gut microbiome grows and becomes healthier. Join us to ferment and snack on Gracie’s pickles, crackers, and cheese.

Dr. Alyssa Finn (she/they) is a family doctor in Augusta and has a background in clinical nutrition and dietetics. Alyssa loves to practice lifestyle medicine: helping patients to eat more healthfully, move their bodies more, improve sleep, decrease stress, and increase community involvement. Dr Finn facilitates shared medical appointments where they teach plant-based cooking with their patients. Alyssa lives in Bath and enjoys being outside and exploring the natural world, as well as cooking, baking, music making and listening, reading, and playing with their spouse and two children.
