Weekend to Benefit Ukraine

Now You’re Cooking will be donating 10% of all sales made over this weekend (Friday, April 29 – Sunday, May 1) to the non-profit organization, United Help Ukraine, which is an organization currently focusing on sending medical supplies and humanitarian aid to the areas of greatest need in Ukraine. Louisa will also be a guest today, Thursday, April 28, on the radio show, Maine Calling, which airs from 11am – 12pm for their show titled, “Mainers Helping Ukrainians“. She’ll be talking about the weekend’s benefit and tonight’s weekly cooking demo where she’ll be making, Varenyky (Ukrainian Dumplings) live on Facebook at 5pm. Like many regional dishes, the recipes change from family to family or even from generation to generation. The fillings change too – sometimes reflecting holidays. She’ll be making a basic potato and cheese filling. Listen to the radio show to learn more!
Brew for Ukraine Cans
In early March, just after the invasion of Ukraine Pravada Beer, a Ukrainian brewery, put out a call to action to brewers worldwide to recreate one of their recipes and help to raise money for Ukrainian aid relief. With ingredient help from Allagash Brewing, Oxbow has made Brew for Ukraine, a Belgian-style Witbier. This beer is made with raw Maine wheat, European hops, coriander, and orange peel. It’s fermented with Oxbow’s house yeast. Proceeds from beer sales will be donated to UNICEF to help those affected by and displaced by the invasion. Available now in the Now You’re Cooking beer section.
